Utoda, get serious with security checks
Posted Monday, September 6 2010 at 00:00
Following the July 11 bombings in Kampala, police alerted all those in charge of public places to up security and Utoda, which is in charge of the taxi parks, was no exception. I don’t know whether Utoda will ever be serious in anything it does, but going by its response to this directive from the security agencies, Utoda takes everything for granted.
Take the old taxi park for instance; Utoda has two men carrying out rigorous checks on one of the eight entrances to the taxi park! At the other entrances, it is business as usual as you patrons walk in and out of this congested park! My sense is that Utoda is behaving this waybecause nobody seems to ask them to give us accountability of the huge sums they collect.
The people in charge at Utoda must be untouchable in this land since calls for accountability to the public goes unattended to. They should simply stop tiring the two men at that entrance and do without this useless security checks because they are insulting our conscience!
